It is honestly the wrong bike for quiet, steady cardio. A fan bike is the noisiest style of cardio machine there is, and the whole point of the machine is intensity. If you want to pedal gently while watching television, our quiet magnetic bikes are the better tool, and they cost less.

Most exercise bikes apply resistance to a flywheel with magnets, in numbered steps. An assault bike does something simpler: your pedals and the moving handlebars spin a large fan, and the air itself resists the blades. The faster you try to spin it, the harder the air fights back. Effort in, resistance out, with nothing to adjust.

That is why an air bike can never run out of resistance. On a magnetic bike, the top level is the top level. On a fan bike, the ceiling is you. It is also why the same machine works for a beginner and a hard trainer at the same time: each rider meets exactly the resistance their own effort creates.

The trade-off is noise. Moving that much air sounds like a large desk fan at a gallop, and there is no quiet setting because the noise is the mechanism working. We say this plainly because it is the one thing people wish they had known before buying one.

Choose the AirStorm A1 for full-body interval work: the moving handlebars bring your arms and shoulders into every effort, and the fan gives you unlimited resistance for sprints. Choose the Studio Pro S3 for studio-style riding: its 11 kg weighted flywheel gives a smooth, road-like pedal stroke, and it is the bike for climbing out of the saddle to a class on your phone.

Put simply: the air bike is a machine you attack in short bursts, and the spin bike is a bike you ride.
