About this bike

The Studio Pro S3 is a studio spin bike for riders who want to train hard at home. It really is hard work: a study of an indoor cycling class measured riders at a mean heart rate of 152 beats per minute, peaking around 177[1]. Two proper spin sessions a week deliver a serious cardiovascular workout.

An 11 kg weighted flywheel is what separates a spin bike from an ordinary upright. The extra mass carries the pedals through the dead spot at the top of each stroke, so the ride feels like a road bike rather than a stepper. Add caged pedals, micro-adjustable bars and seat, and a phone mount for classes, and you have a bike that will take a standing climb.

It costs £279.00 including VAT, takes riders up to 150 kg, and arrives free across the UK, part-assembled with the tools in the box.

Who the Studio Pro S3 suits

This bike suits people who already like hard cardio, or who want to follow along with an indoor cycling class on a phone or tablet. It is the right bike if you want to get out of the saddle, sprint, and climb.

It is a heavier, more serious frame than our folding and upright bikes. It stays where you put it. The maximum user weight is 150 kg.

  • Good for: interval training, class-style riding, standing climbs
  • Good for: riders who want a road-like feel and a heavier frame
  • Good for: anyone up to 150 kg
  • Look elsewhere if: you want to sit upright and pedal gently while watching television
  • Look elsewhere if: you need the bike to fold away, where the FoldFit X1 is the answer
  • Look elsewhere if: you want back support, where the ComfortGlide R500 is far kinder

How to choose an indoor cycling bike, and why this one

Flywheel weight is the first thing to look at. A light flywheel makes the pedal stroke feel choppy. A heavier one, like the 11 kg wheel on the Studio Pro S3, smooths the stroke out and lets you stand up without the bike feeling like it wants to stop.

Adjustability is the second. A spin bike you cannot fit is a spin bike you will not ride. This one micro-adjusts the seat and the handlebars, so you can set your knee angle and your reach properly rather than settling for the nearest hole.

Pedals and stability come third. Caged pedals hold your feet at speed, and the wide, weighted base keeps the frame steady when you climb out of the saddle.

Finally, the screen. This bike has a phone and tablet mount rather than a built-in display, which keeps the price down and lets you use the app or class you already pay for.

Delivery and assembly

Free UK delivery, shipped to your door by a tracked courier. A spin bike is the heaviest thing we sell, so it comes on a pallet or a two-person service, part-assembled, with the tools you need in the box.

The heavy frame arrives built. The seat, handlebars, pedals and stabilisers attach at home, with clear instructions supplied. It helps to clear a space and to have a second person on hand to move the frame.

Typical delivery window: [confirm]. The courier agrees a day with you first and sends tracking before it arrives.

Care, storage and where to put it

This bike does not fold. Decide where it lives before it arrives. It needs a level floor and enough room to stand up on the pedals without hitting a light fitting or a shelf.

Put a mat underneath. It protects the floor, catches sweat, and cuts the noise carried into the room below, which matters in a flat.

Wipe the frame and the bars after every ride, because sweat drips onto the frame directly on this style of bike. Check the pedals and the seat clamp monthly, and keep the flywheel area clear of dust.

How the Studio Pro S3 compares

Against our folding and upright bikes, the Studio Pro S3 is the one you buy to work hard. It costs more, weighs more, and does not tuck away, but nothing else in the range gives you a standing climb.

Cycling is also gentler on the knees than it looks. A peer-reviewed study of cycling and knee osteoarthritis notes that cycling imposes lower knee joint loads than walking, stair climbing and common resistance training exercises[2]. You can push hard on a bike while asking less of your knees than a run would.

The intensity is sustained, too. In the same indoor cycling study, riders stayed at hard intensity from the 10 minute mark to the end of the 45 minute class[1], which is why two or three rides a week go a long way.

Studio Pro S3 Indoor Spin Bike: your questions answered

What flywheel weight do you need on a spin bike?
For home use, a flywheel of roughly 8 kg or more gives a smooth pedal stroke. The Studio Pro S3 has an 11 kg flywheel, which carries the pedals through the top of the stroke and lets you ride out of the saddle without the bike stalling.
Is a spin bike noisy?
A spin bike is quieter than a treadmill but louder than a magnetic upright bike, mostly because you ride harder on it. Standing up and sprinting makes noise through the floor, so put a mat underneath, particularly in a flat.
What is the maximum user weight of the Studio Pro S3?
150 kg, about 23 stone 8 lb. That is the highest limit in our range, alongside the ComfortGlide R500.
Does it have a screen, and can I use it with an app?
It has a phone and tablet mount rather than a built-in screen. You ride along with whichever app or class you already use, which keeps the price down and avoids paying twice for a display you would ignore.
Is a spin bike bad for your knees?
Not usually. Cycling puts lower loads through the knee than walking or stair climbing, according to a peer-reviewed study of knee osteoarthritis patients. Set the seat height correctly, as a seat that is too low is the most common cause of knee pain on a bike.
Does the Studio Pro S3 fold away?
No. It is a fixed, weighted frame, which is exactly what makes it stable enough to stand up on. If you need the bike to fold, choose the FoldFit X1 instead.
